These Things Would Be So Much Easier to Explain if He Would Just Expand His Vocabulary

I baby-sat for my cousins Saturday night and had the following unsuccessful conversation with a two-year-old:

me: ...and this is a lizard.

him:  Hold it.

me:  You wanna hold it?

him:  Yesth.

me:  We can't hold it.

him:  Why?

me:  Because it's in the book.

him:  Why?

me:  It's just a drawing in a book.  It's not real.

him:  Hold it.

me:  We can't.

him:  Why?

me:  Because...it's just...it's not...if I said the words "two dimensional," would that mean anything to you?

him:  Hold it.
