And Just Like That...

In the last three weeks, I have made four birthday cakes, attended a slip 'n slide backyard birthday party for a dear friend's 30th, hit golf balls terribly at a driving range with my friend Sara, made it to week 4 of couch to 5k training, failed at being a matchmaker, become employed, visited a wedding venue Joe and I fell head over heels for, set a (very) tentative wedding date, and had a lot of iced coffee.  In a nutshell.

I'm employed!  I practice real estate law now!  At a firm very near to my apartment!  Yay!  And that's all I'm going to say about that because signing social networking agreements upon hire is very real.  Just one last thing....yay!  Deep breaths.  Exhale.  I can sleep again.

I was employed for 6 whole days before I scheduled a wedding venue visit, because I am so beyond ready to get this wedding train back on the planning tracks.  We found a delightful inn about an hour from where we live and if I had made a list of everything I wanted in a venue when all this started (and you know I did) then I would now be able to check every item off that list.  It's beautiful and charming and lovely and cozy and perfection.  It's also a little pricey.  But I'm going to negotiate my sweet tushy off and possibly promise to hand over our first three children should it be required.  The first three probably won't be that great anyway.  Really counting on the fourth one being where it's at.

Now then, most importantly, it's September!  My favorite season is upon us and I am counting down the days to sweaters and pumpkins and cider and leaves changing and crisp fall air and no more mosquitoes and no more humidity and no more having to turn up the TV volume when the AC comes on and then having to turn down the TV volume when the AC shuts off and then over and over and over again in a never-ending horrible cycle and my god the humanity please make it stop is it cold out yet?

Thank goodness I got a job so my brain can focus on other things.

Dont worry lovey, the matchmaking thing isn't really your fault...honestly, isn't Joe more to blame?

Yay! I've been missing your posts and anxiously awaiting an update on your NY life! (Stalk much? Hm.) Anyway, this one was full of good news, so just wanted to give an overall congrats!!! That's fantastic about the job, and also about your 5K training, and getting wedding planning back on track! Ha. Can't wait to read how all of that goes :-)

Whits - I have the race picked out already. My cousins and I are doing a local race in October. Thanks for the tip on the website!

Sara - that's true of most things.

Thanks Kelsey!

congrats on the job!! If it doesn't breach your firms policy, how did you end up getting the job? Alumni connections? Knocking on doors? Family connections?

I know you've been at this so long--was just wondering what finally came through for you

Jen - Actually despite all my networking and contact making and phone calls and e-mails, this job came from a Craigslist ad. I was a little wary of looking at Craigslist ads for attorney jobs, but I've been hearing from friends and other attorneys that it's becoming an increasingly common way for firms to find people. I had several interviews from responding to Craigslist listings - though I always sent a test e-mail first and asked for the firm name, firm e-mail address, and a contact person before submitting any personal information. I wish I had a more helpful answer, but that's what ended up working. Thanks for the congrats!
